About this Event
Don't miss our last Stories on a Plate meeting until fall — we're going out in style!
For June, we've chosen We Fancy: Simple Recipes to Make the Everyday Special by Jerrelle Guy, a Food & Wine Best Cookbook of Winter 2026 from the beloved food writer and author of the James Beard Award finalist Black Girl Baking.
At its heart, We Fancy is built around a simple but transformative idea: fanciness is a mindset. It's about realizing you can make everyday food feel special using what you likely already have on hand — and seeing cooking not as just another task, but as a nourishing ritual to ease away the day's stress.
The recipes feel fresh and exciting — think Nearly Instantaneous Risotto with black or roasted garlic, Double-Stacked Black Bean Burgers smashed with tortilla chips, Artichokes in the Perfect Butter Wine Sauce, and Olive Oil Brownie Pudding with chopped nuts. It isn't about fuss, but fun — creative yet doable ideas that make dinner feel the teensiest bit more elevated.
Jerrelle Guy is an award-winning author and celebrated food photographer, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a master's in gastronomy from Boston University. Nigella Lawson calls it "an original and imaginative book," while Molly Yeh says it is "as much a self-improvement book as it is a cookbook."
Come ready to share your experience cooking from the book, swap your favorite recipes, and celebrate the season together. This is our last meeting until September — so let's make it a fancy one!
🍽️ Stories on a Plate returns in the fall. See you then!
