Stolen Lives is the compelling documentary of Sunny Jacobs and Peter Pringle

the only known couple in the world to have been sentenced to death, accused of killing police officers, exonerated, and subsequently married. Their extraordinary life stories defy imagination and exemplify resilience, justice, and the transformative power of forgiveness.

This remarkable account follows Sunny Jacobs from the United States and Peter Pringle from Ireland, both of whom endured decades of wrongful imprisonment. Sunny spent 17 years on death row in the U.S., while Peter was the last person sentenced to capital punishment in Ireland in 1980, serving 15 years before their exoneration. Each was accused of separate incidents—Sunny on a Florida highway during a routine traffic stop, and Peter during a bank robbery in Ballaghadereen, County Roscommon.

Their paths crossed when Sunny was speaking out against the death penalty during a tour in Ireland, marking the beginning of a profound partnership. Their collaboration led to the founding of The Sunny Center Foundation which includesThe Sunny Healing Center in Ireland and The Sunny Living Center in Tampa, FL — both programs serve as beacons of hope for those who leave Pr*son burdened by trauma and injustice.

The work of Sunny and Peter is rooted in love, forgiveness, and hope. They devoted their lives to supporting other exonerees, many of whom, like Robert Du Boise (37 years on death row), Tony Kelly (31 years), and Clemente Aguirre Jarquin (17 years), have been exonerated after suffering unimaginable injustices. Their stories shed light on critical issues of wrongful convictions, systemic flaws, and the profound impact of poverty and prejudice on the justice system.

Tragically, Peter Pringle passed away two years ago, and Sunny Jacobs recently lost her life in a devastating house fire in June 2025, along with her dedicated carer, Kevin Kelly. Their passing marks a profound loss for the justice and advocacy communities. Their legacy of love, resilience, and activism will continue to inspire efforts worldwide.

The Sunny Healing Center in Ireland, a vital part of this legacy, will need to be rebuilt and the program redesigned to carry on their healing work. Additionally, efforts are underway to expand the re-entry program at The Sunny Living Center in Tampa, Florida, ensuring continued re-entry support for those emerging from wrongful detention.

Their lives—and their relentless pursuit of justice—highlight the importance of compassion, perseverance, and the ongoing fight against injustice. Stolen Lives ultimately demonstrates the incredible capacity of the human spirit to overcome adversity, offering vital insights into legal reform, trauma recovery, and the power of forgiveness. Their stories serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion and justice in shaping a more equitable world.
