About this Event
Join us for a quilting workshop focused on creating beautiful quilt blocks inspired by friendship. Participants will learn essential quilting techniques while designing meaningful blocks that celebrate connection and community. Perfect for all skill levels, this hands-on session fosters creativity and camaraderie through the art of quilting.
This workshop is part of the Stitching Stories project, where we are bridging the Black and Asian communities through the art of textile works, supported by Healing Illinois.
This workshop is in collaboration with the Needle and Threads Quilters Guild, where we will have Ruth Raickett-Roberts, Susan Trice, and Zakiya Williams leading it!
About the Artists:
Ruth Raickett-Roberts started her business back in 2022 as an opportunity to be an entrepeneur using her gifts, talents, and creativity. She enjoys quilting and creating upcycled items from men's ties as a way to share her creativity with the world.
Susan Trice first learned how to quilt when she joined Needles and Threads Quilters Guild in 2001! She found it as a way to express her creativity using mostly African fabrics and it has since brought her joy to make quilts for her family and friends. In the past, she was able to make a quilt for her grandmother, for babies, for her grandsons, and as of last year, she was able to make one for each of her five siblings!
Zakiya A. Williams was introduced to quilting in 1995. She started quilting in 2013 when she joined Needles and Threads Quilters Guild.
A devoted wife and mother, Zakiya’s children are Williams’ most ardent supporters and family are inspirations for Zakiya’s quilts, as evidenced in her Anniversary Story Quilt.
