About this Event
Spend an afternoon at NUMU learning how to make a stitched mixed media art piece that chronicles a memory or life event with our exhibiting artist, Susan Hyde Greene. In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn how to use photographic images, paper, and thread to create pieced, stitched, cut-apart, and reassembled artworks relaying stories of personal memory and/or meaningful life events. Susan will show you examples in books, as well as her own work for inspiration. You will learn simple stitching and assembly techniques for use on paper.
This will be a fun and engaging workshop. No prior art experience needed. All materials are provided. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring personal images from their collection, such as photographs, original artwork, book pages, and magazines.
Give the gift of an experience: tickets can be purchased for yourself or a friend. If you would like a physical gift certificate, contact us.

More from the artist:
One of my earliest memories is running my fingers over tiny hand-sewn stitches on a doll's dress. I think that is what made me fall in love with texture and making things with fabric and thread. To this day, whenever I make hand stitches, I think of that early memory.
Eventually, I discovered that I can stitch on anything that I can push a needle and thread through. It was a happy day when I began to stitch on my photographs...large and small. It was only a matter of time before I began stitching on postcard-sized images. Tearing and cutting them apart, adding various materials, then reassembling with glue and stitching became a way to communicate small stories and messages to friends and family.
