Join us for a Florida Paddling Trails Association Member Appreciation Paddle! FPTA has been maintaining and supporting the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail since 2004. This Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddle Trail (The Circ) runs from Big Lagoon State Park on the Alabama border to Fort Clinch SP on the Georgia border. Our members help support this all volunteer organization in supporting paddlers as they make the journey, and maintaining the campsite and waterways that comprise the 1515 mile trail. The $25 yearly fee ($20 for supporting paddle club members) lets us run the organization of Regional Directors, Trail Angels and Trail Keepers. Trail Angels provide support for paddlers on the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddle Trail (Circ). This could be helping them get supplies, getting them back to their car after they paddle for a few days, or just meeting them on the water and providing some companionship. Trail keepers maintain all our paddle trails around the state through cleanups, reporting water hazards, and other activities. Your donations also help fund these outings, and classes like the Paddling Skills session Frank Fernandez ran on March 28.Donations also support the Taylor Howard Youth Paddling Fund. This fund awards grants for children to attend paddling camps across Florida, ensuring a vibrant and educated paddling community into the future.

This event will require a signed Insurance waiver which will be available on sight.
Join us for a paddle out to the historic structures of Stiltsville (http://stiltsvilletrust.org/). This is all open water so the outing is very weather dependent, keep an eye out for last minute changes/cancelation. We will have a safety briefing at 8:45 AM and LAUNCH at 9:00 sharp. Due to the seasonal afternoon showers we will not delay for late comers. Leaving from the kayak launch in Bill Baggs State Park we paddle south past the Cape Florida Lighthouse and out to the "Safety Valve" where the houses are located. This is about a seven mile total trip at a relatively leisurely pace and we plan to be off the water by 3. There are no places to land, but the water by Stiltsville is shallow so getting on and off your paddlecraft is not a problem. This is all open water and crosses a few boat channels so PFDs must be worn at all times.
WHERE:
Bill Baggs State Park on Key Biscayne. The park gates open at 8 AM. There is an $8 park entrance fee ($4 for a vehicle with a single occupant). After entering the park take the first left and then the second left. Parking for the launch is at the end of this lane. There is a picture map in the comments.
LEVEL:
All Levels. Kayaks must be sit-on-top, inflatable, or have bulkheads. Open cockpits without bulkheads will not be allowed. Paddleboards are welcome. Additional restrictions on participating craft may apply depending on the weather. If you are unsure if your craft is acceptable comment with your make and model and we'll let you know.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring sunblock, bug spray, plenty of fluids. Lunch or snacks are a good idea too. A PFD and sounding device are required by Florida law and must be worn on the water to participate in this event.
FACILITIES:
There are bathrooms with changing facilities and outdoor showers.
PARKING:
The parking lot is about 200 yards from the launch so bring a cart if you have one. I also suggest leaving the designated kayak parking spots open since there should be plenty of available parking this time of day.
RENTALS:
There is a PADL kiosk but this is not a good trip for a first time paddle board experience.
DISCLAIMER:
I am neither a professional guide nor instructor. Each attendee is responsible for their own safety and preparedness.
