Forbert arrived in NYC from Meridian, Mississippi, in 1976, becoming a fixture in both the folk revival and CBGB’s punk scene. He busked in Greenwich Village and Grand Central Station before signing with Nemperor/CBS Records. His 1978 debut Alive on Arrival was followed by Jackrabbit Slim and its hit single “Romeo’s Tune,” launching his enduring career.
