URBINA JONES requested permission from the writer Larry Weiss and his publisher to refresh the song, both in English and in Spanish. The new Spanish translation by Dulce Maria Soto (Maria D’Luz) and sung by Urbina Jones resulted in a glorious new single with a beauty and a brilliance of its own.URBINA JONES is a beloved Country and Tejano music artist, frequently featured at the revered Grand Ole Opry. She was the first artist to perform with a Mariachi ensemble at the historic stage of the Grand Ole Opry, making history of her own. URBINA JONES AND THE HONKY-TONK MARIACHI recently performed at the iconic Tejano Music Awards and at the legendary LERMA’S dance hall, where scenes of the Selena movie were filmed, and where many of the legends of Conjunto and Tejano once graced the stage.
URBINA JONES AND THE HONKY-TONK MARIACHI delivers a tour-de-force with “JOYAS DE VAQUERA,” breaking borders, uniting cultures, and mixing Country and Mariachi music with the loving touch of an artist who has traveled the world and finds herself perfectly aligned between two cultures, two genres, and one heart for great music.
“JOYAS DE VAQUERA” sounds like a huge production because it is. With a cast of 14 musicians and singers and over 32 channels of music, this all-Spanish song by URBINA JONES AND THE HONKY TONK MARIACHI is truly a major undertaking, because URBINA JONES and her team strive for the highest levels in musical excellence.
“JOYAS DE VAQUERA” was recorded and mixed in three different studios, with the input of top-level producers, engineers, and arrangers such as PATTERSON BARRETT, the band’s Musical Director. Nothing was left to chance. The first tracks and the foundation for “JOYAS DE VAQUERA” were first recorded in Tornillo, Texas, followed by recording of vocals and overdubs in Nashville, TN, with the final mixing and mastering done in Kyle, TX . The project produced by URBINA JONES and producer/ manager PRESTON “SHOES” SULLIVAN coordinated up to the smallest detail throughout the recording of “JOYAS DE VAQUERA.”
The initial tracking sessions were recorded at the Sonic Ranch on the border town of Tornillo, Texas, the world’s largest residential recording studio complex, with Manuel Calderón as engineer. Urbina Jones and the production team then traveled to Nashville, where all vocals, background vocals, trumpet solos, and harp were recorded at the historical Omni Sound Studios with engineers Rory Rositas and Josh Emmons. The final mixes were done by Rick Del Castillo (DEL CASTILLO) and Preston “Shoes” Sullivan at Smilin Castle studios in Kyle, Texas.
