Steina – Tímaflakk Kristín Scheving, myndlistarmaður og safnstjóri Listasafns Árnesinga leiðir gesti um sýninguna Steina – Tímaflakk.
Sýningin er samstarf Listasafns Íslands og Listasafns Reykjavíkur og verður í báðum söfnunum samtímis. Steina er einn helsti frumkvöðull vídeólistar og nýmiðlunar í heiminum og brautryðjandi og áhrifamanneskja á sviði samtímalistar hérlendis. Með verkum sínum hefur hún á einstakan hátt tengt saman vídeólist, tónlist og tækni á skapandi og frjóan hátt. Sýningin er fyrsta stóra yfirlitssýningin á verkum Steinu hér á landi. Hún er upphaflega skipulögð í Bandaríkjunum undir heitinu Playback og sett þar upp á tveimur söfnum árið 2024 en hér á landi verður hún viðameiri að umfangi og inntaki. Rakinn verður listrænn ferill Steinu frá upphafi til samtímans og birtir sýningin í heild því afar áhugaverða mynd af þróun tækni og listar á síðustu áratugum.

Steina – Playback
Kristín Scheving, artist and director of the LÁ Art Museum, guides visitors through the exhibition Steina – Playback.
The exhibition is a collaboration between The National Gallery of Iceland and the Reykjavík Art Museum presenting the works of visual artist Steina Vasulka. It will open simultaneously in both museums, Iceland's two main art museums. Steina is internationally recognised as a leading pioneer in video and new media art and is a major influence on contemporary art in Iceland. Her work uniquely connects video art, music, and technology in ways that are both highly inventive and playful. The exhibition is the first major retrospective of Steina's work in Iceland. It will span the entire scope of her artistic career, tracing the development of Steina’s ideas and technological innovations over several decades from early experiments in documentary video work to her most recent installations from the early 2000s.
