All the ladies who are “anybody” in Chinquapin, Louisiana gather at Truvy’s beauty salon to have their hair done. With the help of her eager new assistant Annelle (who isn’t quite sure whether she is still married), the outspoken and wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoo, styling, and plenty of free advice to the town’s colorful regulars — including the sharp-tongued Ouiser, eccentric millionaire Miss Clairee with her famous sweet tooth, and local social leader M’Lynn, whose daughter Shelby (the prettiest girl in town) is preparing to marry a “good ole boy.”Filled with hilarious repartee and sharp-witted humor, the story moves from laughter to heartbreak when Shelby risks her life through a dangerous pregnancy. As tragedy unfolds, the women are brought together in a powerful reminder of resilience, friendship, and love in the face of loss.
