About this Event

Our voting rights are under attack.

In a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Louisiana v. Callais, the Court further weakened one of the last remaining tools for challenging racial discrimination in voting. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, long considered a critical safeguard against unfair maps and voter suppression, is now hanging by a thread.

This means states can redraw maps, dilute Black and Brown voting power, and undermine fair representation with fewer consequences. It means the hard-fought gains of the civil rights movement are being quietly rolled back. It means silence is not an option.

So, we are taking this fight on the road.

The Urban Summit and the Urban League of Greater Kansas City are organizing a bus trip to Jefferson City to join People Not Politicians and other advocates from across Missouri in a powerful, unified demand: Protect our voting rights.

Departure:

May 12 th at 7:00 AM Loading Time: 6:30 AM

Morning Star Community Center - 2525 East 27th Street - Kansas City, MO 64127

Return:

Approximately 3:00 PM

WHY WE NEED YOU TO GET ON THE BUS:

We are witnessing a coordinated effort to:

 Redraw political maps to weaken our voting power

 Pass laws that make it harder to vote

 Strip away protections that once ensured fairness

And while all of this is happening, too many are hoping you will stay home. That you will be too tired. Too busy. Too discouraged to fight back. They are counting on your silence.

We have seen this playbook before. Every generation has been forced to defend the right to vote. And every time, it required people willing to stand up, speak out, and be counted.

This is your moment. Not next year. Now.

When voting rights are weakened, everything else follows:

Education. Economic opportunity. Public safety. Healthcare. Housing.

We cannot organize our way out of voter suppression if we refuse to show up when it matters most. We cannot demand representation if we do not defend the right to be represented. And we cannot claim to honor the sacrifices of those who marched, bled, and died for this right if we are unwilling to get on a bus and stand up for it today.

Be on that bus.

Bring your voice.

Bring your urgency.

Bring your resolve.
