🚨🚨🚨 STAR PARTY ALERT!! 🚨🚨🚨** Saturday, April 12, 2025 - - 8:30pm ~ 11:59pm
Hi folks - - Hope everyone is doing well! The Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers wish to invite everyone out to a special kick-off event for our 2025 public star party observing season!
We will be co-hosting along with the Michigan State University in celebration of their annual month-long "Science Festival" for April - - and you're all invited!
Here is a direct link to our event listed on the Michigan State University Science Festival's website -
https://sciencefestival.msu.edu/Event/View/185.
Each year, Michigan State's Science Festival celebrates various science and education areas for all ages - including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics); astronomy; the natural world; museum and nature center visits; Earth and the environment; and nocturnal ecosystems. The University is helping us spread the word for the event, so we're hoping for a great turnout that evening!
We'll be opening the doors to the Kropscott Farm Science Building for guest sign-ins a little before 8:30pm, and observing the night sky till around midnight, as long as people are there, and the skies are clear.
(*** Please stop by the Science Building *FIRST* to sign in before heading over to the observatory).
We'll have plenty to gaze at for the evening, including a Full Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Venus (which will be setting in the West just after 9:30pm). Not to mention some of the winter constellations still hanging around, various star clusters, and a few nebulae. And, always a visitor favorite - The Constellation Tour for April!
We'll be posting a reminder about a week before, and checking the weather forecast for that night. Any updates or changes will be noted in the "Comments" section here if observing plans are called off.
*** PLEASE NOTE: Observatory viewing is subject to cancellation due to cloudy skies/rain. However, on occasion, we'll have an inside program if there is inclement weather.
As always, any club members or visitors who have their own equipment (telescopes and/or binoculars) are encouraged to bring their setups. So feel free to bring your observing toys with you to enjoy and share your favorite sky objects with others! 🔭
Admission for this special evening is: ** FREE! **
Because of the festival's sponsors, this first star party is FREE to the public! We will NOT be charging our regular admission this evening, however, any separate donations always go toward the maintenance and improvement of the Wessling Observatory and Kropscott Farm property.
The Dark Sky Astronomers team look forward to viewing the night sky with you on Sat. April 12!
Until then...
Clear Skies! 🔭🌑🪐✨
