About this Event
We'd love to welcome you to our second Startline Stories. On Thursday12th of March, three people in our community will share their journey to the startline.
✨Startline Stories ✨spotlights the racer. The racer who ‘gave it a go’. The racer who was ‘just a commuter’ last year. The racer who confidently stood on her 100th start line, finally believing in herself.
At London Academy, we don’t focus on the results, we focus on what it takes to achieve them. We don’t just talk about watts, keep count of podiums, or strive to have the longest sponsor list.
We believe in the power of community, in protecting our racers, in progression with confidence and inspiring more women to race bikes.
This series is here to show the side of racing you don’t often see, and that you could be standing here next.
Our first story teller is Alice Connor. Alice is about to begin her third year with London Academy, after racing almost every discipline with Velociposse before joining us. A proud member of Velociposse and a coach at the famous Slow Skills sessions, she's going to tell us about the importance of club racing, community and the women that have supported her through her racing journey. You really can't miss her infectious enthusium for all things riding bikes.
Our second storyteller is Charlii Berry. A newcomer to London Academy this year, but by no means new to racing. An experienced and fiercely intelligent racer, Charlii is returning to the startline after a year out for hip surgery. We'll reveal her talk shortly..
Our third storyteller is Megan Barclay. After a year of taking on ultra distance and cyclocross races you wouldn't know that Megan was new to racing bikes. Although, you've probably bumped into her at Herne Hill Velodrome in her role of Women's Development Officer encouraging others to ride and race. With her talk 'stories not podiums' Megan is going to tell us how she finds racing ‘irresistible yet morally challenging at times’ and how the mantra stories not podiums has helped her enjoy every startline she joins.
Drinks ✨ Our hosts at the Rapha Clubhouse will provide a free drink on arrival, after that there's plenty to purchase!
Cost ✨Tickets are £5 + eventbrite fees. Any money raised goes towards the running costs of the third London Academy Grand Prix, supporting first time and 4th category racers
We can't wait to see you there! 🙌
