How does tech relate to peacemaking? What are the most prominent practical applications for digital technologies in peacemaking? Can peace be a business opportunity?
Digital technologies are shaping the world around us – both for the positive and the negative. The environment, the societies and the well-being of people are heavily transformed by the increasing use of technology. So are peace and conflicts.
Meanwhile peace is a baseline necessity for all other development to take place. Therefore, it is of high importance to explore how could digital technologies enable peacemakers to make better peace.
This official side event of Slush is organised to shed light on a theme unknown to many: the impact the use of digital technologies has on peacemaking. As societies are rapidly digitising, technologies and the internet are becoming more accessible and the level of digital literacy is increasing, it is evident that there are countless opportunities emerging from the digital sphere that could benefit international peacemaking. On the other hand, increasing digitalisation brings also challenges to which peacemakers need to respond. Yet, the number of ongoing digital peacemaking efforts could be higher.

The primary aim of the event is thus to bring closer technologists and peacemakers to foster collaboration and build understanding on the opportunities the peacemaking field provides for small and large technology startups and companies. Technology entrepreneurs and investors, corporations and enthusiasts can change the course of digital development and its effects on the surroundings. Therefore, they can have an impact on peace and conflicts.
