General Information - Stanford/Langmore FEES Course:
This course is an intermediate FEES course designed to provide foundational information in evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders using endoscopy. There will be a “hands-on” session on Day 2 designed to give speech-language pathologists the opportunity to participate in techniques to optimize the instrumental examination. The hands-on portion of the course will include MDs and licensed SLPs. To participate in the hands-on portion, you will be asked to volunteer to be scoped. The core portion of the course consists of lectures, digital imaging, discussion and live demonstrations. Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear our impressive faculty.
As a result of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe 2 potential outcomes of using more than recommended amount of Lidocaine (Langmore).
2. Explain why “manual” light setting is important when doing a FEES exam (McNally, Scheel).
3. Explain the difference between a MBS study and a FEES exam (Langmore, Cavanagh).
4. Describe the “laryngeal rim” and its importance for interpretation of the FEES exam (Langmore).
5. Describe the challenges Pediatric SLPs face with training (Johnson).
This program/course meets the qualifications for ASHA CEUs and continuing professional development credit for speech-language pathologist as required by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board. Stanford’s SLPAB Provider number is PDP-332.
In order to receive ASHA CEUs, you will be required to complete a course evaluation and verify participation hours as assigned in the course agenda. There will be signing in and signing out requirements on both days.
