RAUL KOHLI has fast become one of the most captivating acts in UK comedy. Growing up Indian in the north-east of England (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) he’s blessed with a worldview that upends ethnicity, culture and class. Combining “superb political comedy” (The Scotsman) with surreal storytelling, Raul Kohli is a recognized name in comedy. His debut show was one of BBC Radio 4, The Huffington Post & the Skinny’s Top Picks of the Edinburgh Fringe 2016, his 2019 show was nominated for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival, while his most recent was nominated for best show at the Edinburgh Fringe 2024 (Ish awards) and was described by Chortle as “one of the most important shows of the Fringe”.
As well as several radio & TV appearances, Raul released his own comedy podcast about Hinduism on BBC Sounds (Comic Sanskrit 2019) rated 5* by The Guardian. He is also currently the host of BBC Newcastle official NUFC podcast: Just Put It In The Net. Raul is an award-winning comedian (NATYS 2017) and appears regularly at some of the biggest comedy clubs around the world.
Raul has a short yet ceremonious career in writing and acting, having written and starred in numerous RTS Award Nominated short films. He's also appeared in the sitcom The VAR Room (2021), starred in two Channel 4 shorts: Jokes Only An Indian Can Tell (>1m views on fb) & Jokes Written By AI, wrote & done voiceover work on Mike Reiss’ (Writer/Producer – The Simpsons) podcast: What Am I Doing Here, and also for Lego. He acted as the lead in a short feature film: White Privilege (Cabin Productions, scheduled for release 2024). He appeared in the NUFC Amazon Prime documentary: We Are Newcastle, and recently began work on BBC Radio Newcastle doing weekday evening shows as well as hosting the BBC Total Sport NUFC podcast. He presented ‘Passion & Football in the North East' for Channel 4, for the pre-match coverage between England and Bosnia, and appeared in Adidas' new commercial for the 2024 NUFC kit launch.
