About this Event

Welcome to After Hours at Olde Good Things - a once-a-month event series where we keep our flagship open late to explore history, design, and craftsmanship.

Our April event welcomes stained-glass Designer and Artisan Alexandra Wolfe, to take us on a journey through the world of stained glass. Learn about the history, artistry, and craftsmanship behind these breathtaking pieces—from traditional leaded and stained glass to painted masterpieces often seen in historic churches.

Alexandra’s talk will cover the following:

  • What is Stained Glass?
  • Window Types - Leaded glass, stained glass, and painted stained glass.
  • How it's made and why it's special - Types of glass and metal and the tools and the work involved from design to installation.
  • Examples in the OGT showroom
  • What to consider when buying an old piece - Quality of design and construction, and condition. How to display or use, and simple maneuvers to make it workable, including tips on restoration, and modification.
  • Time for Questions and Discussion will be included along with light snacks to spark an enjoyable evening.

Many thanks to Alexandra for sharing her expertise with us. With training in historic preservation and the fine arts at Columbia University and the Cooper Union, Alexandra Wolfe’s professional experience includes twenty years in the cultural not-for-profit sector following a ten-year career as a stained-glass designer and artisan. From 2013 to 2024, Ms. Wolfe was the executive director at Preservation Long Island, a 70 year-old institution dedicated to advancing historic preservation on Long Island. Her tenure’s key accomplishments included a well-received name-change and rebrand for the 21st century, the launch of a “Young Professionals” fellowship program, and the creation of an award-winning, long-term interpretive initiative that explores history from multiple perspectives.

Since stepping down from her role at Preservation Long Island, Ms. Wolfe has been exploring new opportunities and rekindling her past creative endeavors.

Held at 6pm on Thursday, April 24th, at our showroom located at 333 W 52nd St., we look forward to seeing you!
