Create your own handmade book from start to finish! Join Maria DeAngelo for a hands‑on introduction to stab book binding — a beautiful, time‑honored method known for its exposed stitching and elegant structure. Maria will guide you step‑by‑step as you design and assemble a 6" x 9" book with a hard cover, decorative end papers, and visible binding along the spine. You’ll learn how to make a sturdy cover, prepare your pages, stitch the binding, and line your book with thoughtfully chosen papers that make it uniquely yours.
Whether you’re new to book arts or looking to expand your creative skills, this workshop offers a relaxed, supportive environment to explore the craft of handmade books and leave with a finished piece you’ll be proud of.
What You’ll Do
- Create a hard‑cover book with 6" x 9" pages
- Stitch an exposed binding using the stab‑binding method
- Line your covers with beautiful end papers
- Learn foundational techniques you can use for future book projects

Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
