Presented by That Other Theater Company as part of the 2025/2026 Spotlight Season"A thought-provoking new work" - theatreinchicago.com
In this dark comedy, Ben, a former priest, persuades Gideon, his younger "liberal-anti-gun-queer-feminist-PC-sensitivity trainer" partner, to leave their cozy city life behind to flip a fixer-upper, but he conveniently forgets to mention one detail: the house is in a historically—and currently—Black neighborhood. When Ben hires and befriends a local teenager, Reuben, what begins as a “fresh start” quickly spirals into a tense collision of good intentions, buried prejudice, and uncomfortable truths. Ultimately, a play about relationships and the fragile, often flawed ways we do and don’t communicate, St. Sebastian exposes how intimacy, ideology, and fear can be just as dangerous as outright hostility.
