Doors 7:30pm
A rare chance to experience one of Chicago’s most visionary musical figures live in Bodmin.
Led by Kahil El’Zabar, the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble has been at the forefront of creative, spiritually rooted music since 1974. The project was founded to explore the deep connections between African-American music traditions, including jazz, and ancestral African rhythms and instrumentation.
Over a remarkable career, El’Zabar has collaborated with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Dizzy Gillespie, Nina Simone and Paul Simon, and has long been associated with Chicago’s legendary AACM collective. Touring extensively across Europe and the United States, the Ensemble has built a powerful international reputation for music that is immersive, rhythmic and deeply human.
The current line-up features:
Corey Wilkes – trumpet
Kevin Nabors – tenor saxophone
Ishmael Ali – cello
Kahil El’Zabar – drums, hand percussion, kalimba and vocals
This concert forms part of the Ensemble’s 50th Anniversary World Tour, celebrating their acclaimed album Open Me (SpiritMuse Records).
