Welcome to St. Paul Deaf Con!This is the first in what we hope to become an annual event. What is St. Paul Deaf Con (SPDC)? It is a volunteer-organized gaming convention located at the St. Paul Deaf Club at the historic Charles Thompson Memorial Hall. This is a 3 day in-person game convention in ASL-friendly environment.
We welcome people of all ages and skills who want to meet new and old friends and play a variety of games. This convention is primarily for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Hearing people who communicate in ASL are encouraged and welcome to attend!
We offer tabletop roleplaying, board games, and card games. There will be several tournaments happening on each day for players to choose and sign up for. We have instructors available to teach many different games to attendees. 3 full days of gaming for only $40 admission fee! https://charlesthompsonhall.org/spdc/
SPDC starts on Friday morning June 21 and 10:00 am and runs until 10:00 pm Sunday night June 23, 2024.
The convention starts each day at 10 am with open play and learn to play sessions. After lunch in the afternoon, there will be 1 or 2 tournaments happening or some light ice breaker games. Late afternoon will be final rounds of tournaments, a couple of teachers will host learn to play games. After supper break, we will have group party games, roleplaying games while some small breakout groups play some brain busting, intense or complex games. There will be periodic announcements of what's happening elsewhere in the building, door prize raffles drawings for various prizes.
Pub food such as pizzas, chicken tenders, french fries and onion rings and drinks like water, pop, domestic and craft beers and wine are sold at the clubhouse and there are many restaurants nearby that deliver food.
We are trying to set up about 5 different types of games spread out throughout each day for gamers to choose from and play. Our game library has over 200 games and continues to be updated. Check out
1. Co-operative games for teamwork or for people who hate to lose
2. Personal Puzzles where players do their own thing against others
3. Friendly competition where likely a shared board is used and players play towards a goal
4. Feisty competition where players try to out-think, negotiate, bluff, traitors and betrayal
5. Role-playing games (RPG) are story-based or mission-based, and players take on a role or a character in the game.
As you can see, the choices are many and it's our hope to introduce a new world and experience of board gaming!

On Thursday June 20, there is a 6-hour full day caravan tour of the Twin Cities where volunteer deaf drivers will drive visitors around the Twin Cities. This is a group that will see many natural and historical landmarks of the Twin Cities with a lunch break at the Mall of America. This costs $30 and is a great way for people from out of town and Minnesotans to revisit all of the popular sights. Later that night, Thompson Hall will be open for icebreaker games or open play. The register for this tour, https://charlesthompsonhall.org/event/touroftwincities/ The deadline is June 1 to sign up for the tour!
