ST. MARY'S COUNTY HISTORY DAY
held at Leonardtown Public Library
9:00 am
St. Mary’s County History Day is brought to you by Historic Sotterley, in partnership with St. Mary’s County Public Library and Maryland Humanities.
2025 THEME: RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES in HISTORY
St. Mary’s County History Day is a local contest affiliated with Maryland History Day and National History Day. It is a district-level contest for middle and high school students to do in-depth research and create unique projects about each year’s theme in one of five categories: paper, exhibit, documentary, website, or performance. It is a chance for students to develop critical skills that they will use throughout their schooling and careers, and winners of the district contest will advance to the state-level contes.
It is an opportunity for middle and high school students to do self-guided research and create projects about topics that interest them. Winners of St. Mary's County History Day receive awards and advance to the state level contest. Judging is in March, but students should be working on their projects right now so they have the best chances possible of moving on to Maryland History Day. 4th and 5th grade students are also welcome to participate in the local contest, but will not be able to move on to the state-level contest.
Students can join in on the contest regardless of class participation, so it's a great opportunity to get your middle and high schoolers involved in a little at home learning. There will also be several categories of prizes for the best projects presented!
