About this Event
St Brigid’s Day Dublin Coach Tour: James Joyce at 144
This St Brigid’s Bank Holiday Monday we’ll take to the road in celebration of James Joyce’s 144th birthday and explore the city and suburbs that shaped his life and work.
Our jaunt will bring us to places such as Drumcondra, Mountjoy Square, Sandymount, and Glasthule/Sandycove with readings — more than a few songs — from Joyce’s writings along the way — allowing Dublin’s streets, seafronts, and voices to speak.
Join us for this special event — and should you wish to bring readings, songs or stories with you, please feel free to share them with our merry band of Joycean enthusiasts. Be it the case that Joyce is relatively new to you, you'll certainly know him better by tour's end!
Either way, we’ll all have had some fun along the way. And, with that the promise that longer days lie ahead, we'll be keeping an eye out for the streeetch in the evening....
"Anois teacht an Earraigh
beidh an lá dúl chun shíneadh,
Is tar eis na féil Bríde
ardóigh mé mo sheol."
Points to note:
a) To facilitate guests we'll have two pickup points - one on either side of the Liffey (details to be advised by email on Friday 30th January).
b) A one-hour stop for readings in Glasthule/Sandycove will also provide an opportunity for you to possibly have food and refreshments at The Eagle at 18/19 Glasthule Road.
c) The tour will end close to Belvedere College, a stone's throw from the James Joyce Centre on North Great George's Street.
