About this Event
In the epic poem ”The descent of ALETTE” by Alice Notley, “the narrator finds herself underground, deep beneath the city, where spirits and people ride endlessly on subways, not allowed to live in the world above that is ruled by a TYRANT.” Using quotation marks to pace the reader’s ingestion of phrases she writes:
“Where are “ “my companions?” “your companions” “have temporarily” “become you”“I saw that” “my hands’ outlines” “were several” “& seemed blurred” “Likewise” my arms & legs—” “I looked plural” “But my eyes are” “unified,” “my vision single,” “my mind single”
Whether this composite be considered a chimeric interpretation of a multi-limbed goddess Durga or a manifestation of an intelligent exuberant octopus (drawing series), SQRM explores the idea of composite presence, liveness on liveness, to visualize anew how we are plural and how we may coexist as translucent temporal multi-limbed beings joined by unified focused intent.
In Carole Kim’s multimedia installation performances, she is interested in the integration of technology with live presence, the nuanced connection between the human nervous system and mediated expression. Utilizing real time software incorporating live cameras and audio frequency analysis, the live gestural sensitivity of the performers manifests simultaneously directly in physical space and through the visual media environment.
