Instructor: Zaiga Minka Thorson, Professor of Art Emerita, Black Hawk College
Cost: $120 (all supplies provided)
Adults: (16+), class will be capped at 12 participants, no art experience required
Spring is a time for new beginnings, growth and fresh, vivid colors. Tap into your own growth and imagination by joining Zaiga for a relaxing workshop exploring watercolor painting in a loose, expressive manner. Instruction will include a variety of watercolor techniques, basic color theory and tips for creating interesting compositions. The watercolors will be used as collage material to develop your own creative artwork!
Flower and garden images will be provided as reference materials, including photos of the Hauberg
Estate’s beautiful gardens. Participants are encouraged to bring their own images for reference – whatever suggests spring to you!

March 11 • Introduction to watercolor terminology
Techniques incorporating wet on wet, dry brush, salt and plastic wrap
March 18 • Basic color theory
Continued exploration of techniques and creating your own color palette
March 25 • Compositional considerations
Begin cutting out collage elements & combining
April 1 • Final compositions completed
