Learn spring nature/folk songs by ear with Kelsey Michael, sing amongst the Morrab Gardens Magnolia trees, plus group songwriting of Magnolia ‘Haiku Songs’ for Gardeners House Magnolia Festival. Perfect for anyone wanting to dip their toe for the first time into singing and nature folk singing, a relaxed and social time for all abilities. No experience needed! Just a love of nature and a desire to sing. All voices welcome, no need to have ‘a good voice.’ Songs will be taught by ear and all singing will be as a group.
Kelsey Michael is a nature folk singer and songwriter whose Cornwall inspired music can be found on Anglo/Irish label Dimple Discs. Kelsey has collected an uplifting repertoire of traditional, contemporary and original folk songs to sing us through the seasons in Penwith. She leads Folk & Nature Choir FOLKTREE, and community singing at Montol Winter Solstice Festival, Bosavern Community Farm celebrations, May Horns, and other fetes, fairs and Wassails.
For this workshop Kelsey will teach easy to learn short trad and modern folk and nature songs taking inspiration from spring as it brings colour and life to The Gardeners House and Morrab Gardens. She will also lead a short wander in the gardens to sing folk songs with the Magnolia trees, as part of The Gardeners House Magnolia Festival. The group will take a moment to respond to their experience with the Magnolia flowers by spontaneously brainstorming some lyrics together, conjuring up a collection of single words and phrases. Back in the lab Kelsey will guide the group to create a ‘Haiku Song.’ The term haiku will be loosely applied to mean a short three line song capturing an experience in nature. The group will sing their Magnolia Haiku songs together to finish.
Ticket prices
We offer a tiered system of pricing, so that there should always be a ticket price to suit all purses. We do not want there to be any barriers to you attending our events if you would like to come along. This is why we offer some free tickets for each of our events.
Our Free or lower cost tickets are there for you to book if you don’t have much spare money at the moment. We will never ask questions about this – we just ask for an honesty system, where these tickets are booked if you can’t afford a full price ticket but would love to join us.
Our Standard tickets are an affordable option, designed to help us cover the cost of putting on these events (opening the building, staffing, speakers, any teas, coffees or food and so forth)
Our higher-price You Support Us option gives you the price to pay a little more for your ticket, as a way of supporting the work of the Gardeners’ House. It allows us to cover the cost of the event AND to have some left over which we can put towards our work as a charity.
Please think about the level of ticket which applies to you when you’re booking.
