About this Event

Join Detroit Bird Alliance leader Alicia Robb for a birding event in Commerce Township at the Robert H. Long Nature Park. Alicia will take you on a walk through a marshy oasis with a special focus on spotting waterfowl and Barn swallows. This is a fun way to learn about birds in an urban setting.

Trip Details:

The leader will meet you in the parking lot. Entry to the park is free.

We will be walking on a flat, approximately 2 mile limestone path that winds through marshland and around a small lake that offers the chance to observe Great Blue Herons, Mute Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Great Egrets, Mallards, Double-Crested Cormorants and more! A highlight of the walk will be a beautiful covered wooden bridge that serves as a nesting hotspot for dozens of Barn swallows!

Good to know: There are no bathrooms. Half of the walk will be in the sun so wear sun protection and bring water. The terrain is flat, though parts of the trail may be muddy and might have some swan and goose poop, so wear shoes you don't mind getting a little dirty.

After registering, you will receive the Detroit Bird Alliance bi-monthly e-newsletter, Flyway Express.
