About this Event
Spring Into Community Food Growing is a dedicated gathering for existing community food growing groups and anyone interested in setting up new growing projects across Carlisle and the wider area. Hosted at Gosling Sike, this event brings together growers, organisers, volunteers and partners to explore how we can strengthen, connect and expand community food growing in our area.
Throughout the day, you’ll hear from local partners including the Food Cumberland Partnership, Groundwork, Botcherby Green Hub, Carlisle Healthcare and others who are helping shape community food growing locally. We’ll explore current opportunities such as Licence to Grow, discuss what support is available and highlight inspiring projects already happening across the city.
Participants will take part in facilitated round‑table discussions focused on shaping a Carlisle and Surrounding Area Growing Network. These conversations will help identify shared needs, opportunities for collaboration and practical next steps for both established groups and those just beginning their journey.
Alongside the talks and discussions, the day includes a relaxed lunch and seed swap (please bring some spare seeds with you), plus hands‑on learning sessions focused on heritage seeds, seed viability and the youth‑led seed work happening at Gosling Sike. The event concludes with a guided tour of the seed bank and orchard, offering a closer look at the site’s growing spaces and conservation work.
Whether you’re part of an established community growing group or exploring the idea of starting one, this event offers a supportive space to learn from others, share experiences and build stronger connections across Carlisle’s growing community.
Please note: access to the Orchard is uneven and wellies will be required.
