Dive into the study of Japanese flower arranging in this sell-out six-week Ikebana course led by Joanne Caccavale, Riji, Sogetsu School. Designed for students starting their journey, this course builds on foundational techniques while deepening your understanding of form, line, movement, and creative expression within the Sogetsu tradition.
Students will work with provided plant materials and explore increasingly complex arrangements under Joanne’s expert guidance. All school books, plant materials, containers, and pin frogs are provided during class. Participants are asked to bring garden scissors or ikebana scissors.
Instructor: Joanne Caccavale, Riji, Sogetsu School of Ikebana
Joanne Caccavale was born and raised in Singapore, she came to the United States in 1985 to attend school, eventually making the U.S. her home. Although she was educated and trained as an attorney, her true passion has always been flowers. A professionally trained floral designer, Joanne transitioned to Japanese flower arranging more than twenty-two years ago and has been teaching Ikebana for over sixteen years.
She is a perennial exhibitor at the New England/Boston Flower Show and has participated for many years in MFA Art in Bloom with her garden club. Joanne is a two-time Past President of Ikebana International Boston Chapter and currently serves as Director of the Boston Chapter of the Sogetsu School.
Joanne holds the rank of Riji, the highest instructional rank awarded by the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. She teaches regularly at her home studio as well as at Massachusetts Horticultural Society's Garden at Elm Bank and conducts workshops throughout Massachusetts for the Sogetsu School.
