Spring Foraging Walk – Hanham Lock, Bristol / Keynsham

Join Rich from Fireside Meetups for a relaxed spring walk exploring the riverside paths and woodlands around Hanham Lock, on the edge of Bristol and Keynsham.

As the landscape wakes up after winter, we’ll take a gentle wander along the River Avon and through nearby woodland, discovering the edible and medicinal plants that begin to appear in early spring. While fungi are more limited at this time of year, we may still encounter some seasonal species along the way.

This is a relaxed and welcoming event — part nature walk, part introduction to foraging, and a great opportunity to spend a couple of hours outdoors with like-minded people.

During the walk we’ll look at:

• Edible wild plants of early spring
• Medicinal plants and traditional uses
• Plant identification tips and safe foraging principles
• Seasonal changes in the landscape
• (Occasionally) fungi that appear at this time of year

This walk is suitable for complete beginners as well as those already interested in foraging and nature.

Please arrive a few minutes before 10:00 so we can start on time.

The walk will follow riverside paths and woodland trails at a relaxed pace, covering a couple of miles in total.

For anyone who’d like to stay on afterwards, both pubs by the lock are lovely spots for a drink or bite to eat, with plenty of outdoor space if the weather is good.

• Walking boots or wellies recommended (paths can be muddy along the river)
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Waterproofs or warm layers depending on the forecast — keep an eye on the weather
• A notepad if you’d like to jot things down (there’s often lots of information!)
• Curiosity and enthusiasm for the outdoors 🌿

Well-behaved dogs on leads are very welcome.
