Join Southeast MN Prairie Partners Chapter of Wild Ones and the Bee Friendly Environmental Alliance of Steele County for a saunter through Kaplan's Woods with Master Naturalist, Breanna Wheeler and Theresa Harsma from the Bee Friendlies to see what spring ephemerals are blooming. Ephemeral means short-lived and some of these flowers last only a short time before the forest leaves shade out the sun. Early spring is the only time to see these beauties. Come look for and learn about what you can do to help species such as hepatica, wild leek, spring beauty, false rue anemone, white trout lily, Dutchman's breeches, marsh marigold, mayapple, wild geranium, Virginia bluebells, Jack-in-the-pulpit and more. These early spring bloomers are an important source of nectar and pollen that supports pollinators like bumblebees as they emerge after winter. Wear sturdy shoes and bring your binoculars for easier flower viewing and birdwatching if you wish. We will meet at 6 PM in the parking lot of Kaplan's Woods, 1205 18th St SW, Owatonna, MN 55060. Wild Ones will offer a rideshare leaving at 5:15 PM from Emmaus Church in Northfield.
