Oxbow Live: SPOUSE with Spottiswoode & His Enemies

| SPOUSE |

SPOUSE has existed under the general radar for the better part of three decades. These indie rockers have been honing their versatile brand of alternative pop across seven full-length albums and a handful of singles and EPs, evoking the raw grit of The Replacements and the unpredictable dynamics of Pixies in the process. Lead singer, guitarist, and former Portlander José Ayerve is often joined by J. J. O’Connell on drums, multi-instrumentalist Ken Maiuri on guitar and keys, and Marc Seedorf on bass. The SPOUSE family is extensive and includes notable co-writers and collaborators Liz Bustamante, Dan Pollard, Erin McKeown, and Alisha Goldblatt.

| Spottiswoode & His Enemies |

Spottiswoode & His Enemies are an Independent Music Award-Winning rock septet fronted by an Anglo-American songwriter The New Yorker calls a “genius”. The band has released seven acclaimed records, performed numerous Manhattan residencies and toured extensively from SXSW to Lincoln Center. Paste Magazine describes the Enemies live show as “nothing short of transportive!”

They’re "the kind of group that’s so good, so talented, you can’t understand why they’re not regularly headlining huge sold-out theaters.” (Northampton Gazette)

In addition to recording with his Enemies, Spottiswoode has released three solo albums and a duo collection. His songs have been featured in a wide variety of films and television shows. He has been nominated for multiple Independent Music Awards, the piano ballad, “Chariot", earning him the prize for Best Adult Contemporary Song. Spottiswoode’s music travels the gamut, drawing comparisons to Tom Waits, Ray Davies, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Randy Newman and Jim Morrison. Still, he’s very much his own man. He “evokes real emotions, sometimes different ones in a single song” (Dan Reed, WXPN).
