About this Event
This CPD-style event includes contributions from the project architect at Simpson & Brown and The Ridge team.
Black Bull Close is a restored historic close, adapted to provide flexible community and training spaces through the repair of existing fabric and targeted new interventions. Traditional materials and techniques, including lime work and stone repair, are integral to both the project and its ongoing maintenance. While the close supports aspects of The Ridge’s work, their main workshop and training activities take place across other sites in Dunbar, which will also form part of the visit.
The Ridge is a social Enterprise with focus on both support and training with a view to supporting members of the local community into employment. This is achieved through both training programmes and apprenticeships. Employment and skills training come through both outside contracts and a focus on the conservation and restoration of local heritage buildings.
This event will be particularly relevant for practitioners interested in conservation, retrofit, and community-led work, and will also be of strong interest to students.
