About this Event

Following the successful hosting of the sports-themed Race Equality event in 2022, the Birmingham Race Impact Group, Sport Birmingham, and the University of Birmingham are keen to unite practitioners, community leaders, policymakers, and sports organisations. This event marks the launch of the Sports Dashboard (funded by the British Academy) and the Sports Position Statement (led by Sport Birmingham), both integral components of Birmingham's 10-year Race Equality Plan (led by Birmingham Race Impact Group).

This knowledge exchange aims to review Birmingham's status regarding the availability of sports infrastructures, reflect on our experiences of supporting local residents in accessing sports and physical activities, and from a race perspective, discuss collective improvements and future strategies. Additionally, we will disseminate a resource package to enhance community leaders' awareness and understanding of the value of sport and sports infrastructure, emphasising sport's role in addressing race inequality.

The event will also introduce the Active Finder portal, designed to provide a streamlined, one-stop shop for discovering sports and physical activity opportunities within the region. We will welcome grassroots sports organisations to share their feedback on the position statement and offer constructive comments on how we can collectively enhance the sport and physical activity agenda, striving for equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). This collaborative effort aims to build a more inclusive and accessible sporting environment for all residents of Birmingham.
