Join us for a panel discussion that cuts through polished narratives and confronts how media in Ireland and elsewhere frames conflict, genocide and human suffering. With expert voices from photojournalism, media reform and commentary, SPOONFED challenges the stories we accept and pushes for accountability in how we report on devastation, and whose voices get heard.

Speaker Line‐Up
Abubaker Abed
A journalist deeply embedded in the realities of Gaza, Abubaker Abed delivers first-hand reporting from the ground. He’s been outspoken about the deliberate nature of famine in Gaza, calling it “starvation by design” and describing the systematic erasure of entire families.
Eman Mohammed
An award-winning Palestinian photojournalist from Gaza and a Senior TED Fellow. Eman began her career at just nineteen, becoming Gaza’s first (and still prominent) female field photojournalist. Her work spans the Israel–Palestine conflict and intimate stories of trauma, resilience, women’s lives, and shared humanity. Her photographs have appeared in The Guardian, Le Monde, The Washington Post, NYT, CNN and more.
Tony Groves
A sharp-edged commentator and podcaster from Ireland. Co-host of The Echo Chamber podcast, co-founder of tortoiseshack.ie, and provocateur of left-leaning discourse on social media. His voice cuts through mainstream narratives and brings attention to media bias from an Irish context.
Audrey Kissane
Independent journalist and media reform campaigner. She’s written extensively for national and regional publications in Ireland (as well as the UK and Vietnam), and uses her pen to demand more ethical, truthful media structures and coverage.
This event is delivered in partnership with the Mayo Branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
