Do you consider yourself “spiritual but not religious”?
These days many people find themselves in a predicament – wanting some sense of a spiritual community but uncomfortable with the rigidity and narrowness they often see in organized religion, or maybe even rejecting religion outright for the many evils done in the name of God and all the hate and extremism too present in today’s society.
But if the true purpose of religion is to uplift and unite – not oppress and divide – then is what we are seeing around us even true religion? Is it possible we may have inadvertently lost something essential if we abandon religion altogether?
“If religion and faith are the causes of enmity and sedition, it is far better to be nonreligious, and the absence of religion would be preferable; for we desire religion to be the cause of amity and fellowship. If enmity and hatred exist, irreligion is preferable.” – The Bahá’í Teachings
In a conversation that is free and open to all, we will explore from the perspective of the Bahá’í Teachings the true essence and purpose of religion and spirituality and consider the question of faith that not just blindly follows tradition but that seeks to illuminate our understanding of the inherent nobility of the human spirit, that can be a transformative power in our individual and collective lives – unique in its ability to foster love, compassion, and unity among all peoples.
What to Expect?
After a brief introduction, we will examine a short selection of readings from the Bahá’í Writings as a jumping off point for what is sure to be a lively discussion on the true meaning of religion and its role in human society. We will also have some time together to explore more deeply the Bahá’í Teachings, so join us with your questions, thoughts, and a desire to connect with others in your area who want to explore this topic as well!

“Religion is, verily, the chief instrument for the establishment of order in the world, and of tranquility amongst its peoples.” – The Bahá’í Writings
*** This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief. Donations will not be accepted.
