About this Event

The Library of Esoterica Presents:

Spirit Garden: Nature in the Visions of Hildegard von Bingen

Please note: This event is part of PRS’s Plantstock festival, taking place 4/19 – 4/21.

Join us as Plantstock welcomes Library of Esoterica Series Editor Jessica Hundley for a talk and celebration of nature as expressed within works of the visionary Medieval multi-hyphenate, the Abbess/Artist/Musician/Herbalist/Gardener Hildegard von Bingen. Held in The Philosophical Research Society’s historic library, the workshop will include readings from her books of herbalism and mysticism and the unveiling and dedication of the new "Hilde Garden" in the PRS courtyard - a space planted with the healing herbs and flowers that once grew in Hildegard's abbey garden. As this mystic, plant-lover and radical woman wrote over 900 years ago, "The earth is the mother of all, for contained in her are the seeds of all."

Herbal tea & plant-based snacks will be served.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY OF ESOTERICA

The Library of Esoterica explores how centuries of artists have given form to mysticism, translating the arcane and the obscure into enduring, visionary works of art. Each subject is showcased through both modern and archival imagery culled from private collectors, libraries, and museums around the globe. The result forms an inclusive visual history, a study of our primal pull to dream and nightmare, and the creative ways we strive to connect to the divine.
