About this Event
Spilled Fruit: A Still Life Performance + An Artist Talk
Join us for an artist talk with Cecilia Mignon and Naima Nazouari on femininity in the photography world followed by a figure drawing session. Cecilia Mignon and Naima Nazouari both have pieces currently exhibited in the HIGH NOISE show at Strike Slip Gallery. They will be talking about femininity's place in the photographic arts and its relation to their pieces.
The figure drawing session that will follow is titled Spilled Fruit: A Still Life Performance. It is in conversation with human bodies as a still life piece and their relationship to feminine expression. It flirts with the ‘Performance’ pieces exhibited in Strike Slip Gallery. While it is about gender and the performance of it all, on an even simpler note it expresses a way that we look at bodies. The way our bodies are shown in prints versus when they are right in front of you. A camera will save this moment, but what is the relationship between that camera taking a moment and holding it forever and a drawing of that same body displayed in front of you.
For the figure drawing session we will have extra supplies. Please come and draw us, draw the space, draw a piece of fruit. Open to all levels.

Meet the Artists
Cecilia Mignon
Cecilia Mignon (They/Their) is a non-binary photo-based artist living and working in Oakland, CA. Their work explores temporality, soness and poetic space through both imagery and process. Their interdisciplinary practice studies these themes through a gentle deconstruction; applying printmaking and mixed media practices to uncover layers of space or meaning in the moment of the frame, asking what it is about time and memory that is so endlessly unfoldable.
Cecilia Mignon received their BFA in Printmaking at Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2014 and was the recipient of the Thesis Award.
Naima Nazouari
Naima Nazouari (She/Her) is a Moroccan-American photographer and digital artist based in
San Francisco, Ca. She works at the intersection between the digital and physical world looking at the way it interacts with the human experience. Specifically looking at how people express themselves through different mediums creating their own performance of their imagery. She photographs people in movement, in questions of femininity and in relation to the natural world that surrounds them.
Nazouari received a BA from UC Berkeley in Film Theory with a minor in Journalism from the graduate school.
Pretty
Pretty (She/He/They) is a dancer and figure model who has been performing in the Bay Area for 8 years. They come from a background of modern dance performance and have started multiple collectives for performances around the Bay Area. They currently focus on performances that work with the idea of high sexuality and the expression of the body through figurative movements. They have been featured in MRKT Gallery and The De Young Museum for their work on this.
Pretty holds a BA in Dance.
