About this Event
Spices tell stories—of migration, trade, survival, and creativity. In this workshop, Creole Pitmaster Nate Figaro of 8020 Creole BBQ and Red Rice Books will lead participants through the cultural significance of spice blending in Black culinary traditions, particularly in Southern and diasporic cooking. This workshop frames spice blending as both a culinary skill and a cultural expression.
Participants will:
- Learn the foundations of spice balance and flavor building
- Create a custom spice blend to take home
- Discuss how seasoning reflects place, memory, and innovation
Note: Young participants are not allowed without adult supervision.
