The Hope College Department of Music invites the community to “SPERITAS,” a choral concert featuring the college’s SSAA ensemble SPERA and TTBB ensemble VERITAS. The performance will take place on Saturday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
“SPERITAS” brings together two ensembles from the Hope College Department of Music, offering a program that explores themes of kindness, reflection, and human connection through diverse choral traditions.
SPERA will present a program centered on kindness, featuring contemporary works—including a composition by Grand Rapids-based composer Sean Ivory—alongside selections from the American Choral Directors Association SSAA Commission. Additional highlights include the Venezuelan folk song Sendas de la Tarde, the lively Mexican folk song La Cucaracha, two canons by Johannes Brahms, and So Many Angels by Gwyneth Walker.
VERITAS offers a stylistically varied program spanning global and popular repertoire, including Inkosi Namandla, an arrangement of Du bist wie eine Blume, Despertar by Antonio Estévez, and No me vuelvo a enamorar by Juan Gabriel. The ensemble will also perform Rorate Caeli, arranged specifically for VERITAS by Sean Ivory, and And So It Goes by Billy Joel.
Featured composer Sean Ivory, a longtime West Michigan educator and musician, has taught at Forest Hills Central High School since 1992. His choirs have performed at ACDA conferences and toured internationally, and his compositions are widely published.
“SPERITAS” celebrates the richness of choral music across cultures and highlights the artistry of Hope College singers.
The concert will be held on Hope College’s campus and is free to the public. All are welcome to attend.
