The time has come! The Salina Town board has given us a special board meeting to discuss why we want backyard hens in the Town of Salina. We encourage both those for backyard hen ownership and those against to attend as every voice matters. If you support the ownership of backyard hens, the board wants to hear your "why!"
will I you speak about...
ππ Mood-boosting companions β Chickens have surprisingly charming personalities, helping reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness just by being their goofy, clucky selves.
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦π± Family bonding time β Caring for hens together builds routines, responsibility, and shared joy for households and neighbors alike.
π§ π Hands-on learning for kids β From biology and ecosystems to responsibility and empathy, chickens turn your backyard into a mini classroom.
π³π₯ Fresh, nutrient-rich eggs β Daily eggs that are often tastier and more nutritious than store-bought ones = a win for your health and breakfast game.
ππ Food waste recyclers β Hens happily eat kitchen scraps, turning leftovers into eggsβclosing the loop in a simple, natural circular economy.
πΏβ»οΈ Natural compost creators β Chicken manure is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, making it a powerhouse ingredient for compost and healthier soil.
ππ« Pest control pros β Chickens snack on ticks, mosquitoes, and other insects, helping reduce annoying (and sometimes harmful) pests.
ππ‘ Eco-friendly living β Less food waste, fewer pests, and homegrown eggs all contribute to a more sustainable urban lifestyle.
ποΈπ€ Stronger community connections β Backyard hens often spark conversations, sharing, and even egg-swaps between neighbors.
ππ£ Pure entertainment β Watching chickens run, scratch, and interact is oddly hilarious and never gets old.
We NEED YOUR VOICE, There is power in numbers!
