(We are still having our weekly dances till then)
This Spring Equinox gathering weaves together live looping cello, percussion, drums, gong, chimes, and DJ turntables into a transformative 5 Rhythms-inspired journey. You are invited to move freely, express fully, or receive the sound in seated meditation or rest.
Move, sit, or lay down. Dance or be still. Let the music guide you.

Each phase is supported by live instrumentation and curated tracks that align with the rhythm's emotional and energetic tone.

About Ecstatic Dance
Ecstatic dance is a form of abandonment, meaning there are no steps to follow. The rhythm of the music will become one’s only guidance and is intended to open the individual to the purest form of ecstasy: life.
There is no wrong way to dance. All forms of activity that are grounded in the spirit of consent are encouraged, and often range from sitting peacefully on the outskirts of the dance floor to thrashing one’s limbs around like a wild monkey.
Our goal is to create an intentional space where people of all races, ages, genders, sizes, and socio-economic backgrounds are openly welcome to unite in the experience of an authentic moment — a physical and mental rehabilitation that strips away the distractions between the individual self, music, and others.
The dance is guided through a wave of music woven upon the theory of Five Rhythms: beginning with flowing ambient music, moving upward energetically into rhythmic staccato, eventually hitting a chaotic peak, then coming down into (lyrical) playfulness, and settling into a reflective stillness. The music set will last about 90 minutes, with an opening and closing circle at the beginning and end of the dance.

Additional Notes
It is encouraged to arrive on time so that you can experience the whole sonic journey and participate in the opening circle. Feel free to join us still if you can't arrive on time, but arriving on time is especially important if you have no previous experience with ecstatic dance. The opening circle will not only include a short consent workshop, but also a description of the practice and the theme of the set being played.
If you wish to dance with others, remember to seek non-verbal cues of consent (eye contact and open arms mean 'YES'; Arms crossed, no eye contact, avoidance mean 'NO'). Accept the 'NO' (it's okay if someone doesn't want to dance with you at a particular point in time; this is a great way to learn about boundaries!)
An optional closing circle will be at the end of the dance for people to share experiences and conclude the dance. You are not required to share your experience, but encouraged to share your name and pronouns.

(cash, Venmo: @jesse-kalapa, or Cash App: @chocolatejesse)
No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but this money will go toward being able to rent spaces to dance in, upkeep equipment to bring to spaces without a sound system or lights (i.e., outdoor spaces), being able to have rituals such as cacao and sound healing before dance, and paying DJs. We hope to be able to rent out a space to dance indoors as well as have outdoor dances.
With love and movement,
