Special Friend is a Franco-American indie noise pop duo formed in 2018 by Erica Ashleson (drums, vocals) and Guillaume Siracusa (guitar, vocals). Their first (self-titled) EP marked the beginning of their musical journey, blending influences of minimalist indie/pop noise reminiscent of bands like Duster and Electrelane.
Their debut album “Ennemi commun” received a wave of positive reviews, leading them to perform at significant festivals such as La Route du Rock, Binic Folk & Blues Festival, and the Paris Pop Fest. They also opened for artists such as Juan Wauters, Mystic Braves, Girls in Hawaii, Minami Deutsch, Requin Chagrin, Holy Wave, Secret Shine, among others and showcased their ability to create unique and captivating pop, enriched with new keyboard and violin arrangements. Their upcoming album, currently in production, continues this trajectory, exploring new arrangements and sonic textures while drawing from influences such as Yo La Tengo, Elliott Smith, and a hybrid of indie pop, slowcore, and folk pop. It promises to be their most adventurous and melodic work yet, reinforcing their place in the indie underground as a duo committed to both evolution and authenticity.
Third album Clipping is out March 2026 on Skep Wax, Howlin’ Banana, and Hidden Bay Records
