About this Event
Join Platform for Indian Democracy for a guided tour of After the Assembly: Constituting India, a landmark exhibition commemorating 75 years of the Indian Constitution, the longest living constitution in the Global South.
This collaborative exhibition tells the story of how the Constitution was compiled not only through formal committees but also through people’s voices, petitions, and civil society interventions, showing how it has come to be owned and reimagined by Indians in myriad ways.
On display are archival documents, correspondence, and petitions from the late 1940s Constituent Assembly debates (1946–49), presented alongside an interactive digital research platform. These materials are exhibited in conversation with short films, photographs, artists’ prints, and other creative works produced through the AHRC-funded project Pluralist Agreement and Constitutional Transformation (PACT).
The exhibition explores both the historical making of the Constitution and its contemporary resonances—how students, artists, and ordinary citizens continue to express ownership and remaking of this living document in India today.
