Join Trees Atlanta for a very special 2026 Georgia Arbor Month celebration featuring Dr. Doug Tallamy — acclaimed author, conservationist, and co-founder of the Homegrown National Park movement.
Atlanta’s iconic tree canopy is a defining feature of our “City in the Forest,” but it faces growing challenges. Our parks and preserves, no matter how grand in scale, are too small and separated from one another to sustain the native trees, plants, insects, and animals on which our ecosystems depend. Every yard, streetscape, and neighborhood green space can become part of the solution.
Dr. Tallamy will share how the Homegrown National Park initiative empowers individuals and communities to help restore biodiversity—right where we live. By planting native trees and plants, reducing lawn, and removing invasive species, we can reconnect the fragmented patches of our urban forest into vibrant corridors of life.
Together, we can grow a living network of native habitat across Atlanta—one tree, one yard, one neighborhood at a time—and ensure that our canopy continues to shelter the city for generations to come.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Doug Tallamy is an entomologist, conservationist, and professor at the University of Delaware, whose work has transformed our understanding of the relationship between native plants and wildlife.
His research and books, including Bringing Nature Home and Nature’s Best Hope, have inspired millions to see their own yards as part of the solution to the biodiversity crisis. Driven by the belief that everyone can play a role, Doug co-founded Homegrown National Park to encourage people to plant natives in the spaces they care for.
His vision is simple: when we all take part, we create the connected habitats that life depends on.
