Speak Up is a pay what you can monthly open mic night with a featured poet (to be announced). Everyone is welcome to share their words and appreciation for poetry and community. We can't wait for you to Speak Up!

What is Speak Up?

Speak Up YYC is a budding literary community in Calgary AB dedicated to expression; of speaking up, speaking out and speaking truth to power.

Speak Up YYC is hosted by MelVee X, a multidisciplinary artist with a decade of professional practice. I am committed to cultivating spaces dedicated to unapologetic storytelling from voices that have been historically silenced - Black, Indigenous and POC voices, LGBTQ+ voices and neurodivergent voices.
