Topic: "Improving Marginal Well Economics While Eliminating Wellhead Emissions - A Case Study"
DESCRIPTION: It is estimated that over 500,000 low volume marginal wells in the United States produce crude oil and vent associated annular gas. It is commonly assumed that environmental protection efforts have a negative impact on the ability of an asset to produce economically. The speaker will present a case study highlighting an Osage County, OK operator’s experience capturing fugitive emissions and monetizing the methane. The objectives of this case study were to evaluate an innovative method of artificial lift to eliminate associated methane emissions while maintaining and/or improving well profitability. Furthermore, sales of the captured methane, previously vented to the atmosphere, have increased revenue with a positive impact on the environment. These ancillary benefits will also be shown in the case study. Additionally, features and benefits of the system for broader applications are discussed in detail.
