"On February 5th Dennis underwent open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic for a severe case of bacterial endocarditis. The infection did a lot of damage to his heart and he was in critical condition He was then transferred to Cleveland Clinic on February 3rd. After additional testing he was diagnosed with a severe case of bacterial endocarditis and underwent a very risky heart surgery called the Commando. There are only 4 places in the entire world that performs this surgery. The infection was very severe and it did a lot of damage to his heart. The surgeon was honest and told us he may not pull through. Dennis was on life support close to 3 weeks. When he was finally able to come off life support he spent an about another week in CVICU before finally being transferred to a step down unit. On March 10th, after 37 days in the hospital, 35 of those days at Cleveland Clinic, he was transferred to a rehab facility to help him to regain his strength, mobility and put some weight back on. He is making great progress, but has a long road to go. We cannot thank everyone enough for their thoughts, prayers and kindness. Dennis’ journey isn’t over yet but he will come back stronger than he was before. ~Patty"
