Space Coding Camp CLT - July 23-25, 2024
Are you a middle school student with a passion for coding and space exploration? Come join us at Providence Baptist Church for an out-of-this-world coding experience! Get ready to blast off for an exciting adventure at our first “Space Coding Camp” in Charlotte, North Carolina! Over three mornings, you will dive into the fascinating world of space missions and coding, learning about the latest endeavors by NASA and other space agencies. Whether you’re a novice or have some coding experience, you’ll develop your skills in animation and game design using Scratch Software from MIT and Microsoft’s MakeCode Arcade. Both platforms are free and use block-based coding, making them accessible for all skill levels.
In this camp, you will:
- Learn about the latest developments in space exploration.
- Create your own space-themed animations and games.
- Learn to code with Scratch and MakeCode Arcade.
- Collaborate with peers and your experienced instructor.
Your Instructor
Dr. Wesley Fryer, a Charlotte area middle school STEM teacher and 28 year veteran educator, will teach and facilitate Space Coding Camp CLT. Dr. Fryer currently teaches middle school coding classes using Scratch and MakeCode in Charlotte, NC. (With both MakeCode Arcade and Minecraft MakeCode!) Requirements
- Accounts: Students should have a Google / GMail account they can access and check for this workshop. We recommend setting up a Scratch user account prior to camp. We also recommend logging into MakeCode Arcade with your Google Account prior to camp.
- Computer: This is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) coding camp. We recommend an Apple/MacOS laptop or a WindowsOS laptop, but an iPad can also be used. We recommend you pre-install either the Chrome web browser or FireFox web browser to use prior to camp.
