SCOBY
With a WFU origin story and a 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 debut LP titled after Oscar Wilde's description of a cigarette, the alt-rock outfit SCOBY is Winston to the core. From their first basement EP, 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘥, the group has built upon DIY ethics to craft songs that feel like diary entries. Intimate, jittery hooks convey ideas of coming into one's own, accenting SCOBY's sentimental explorations across grief and growth through guitar chords, with lyrics ranging from absurd fictional perspectives from self-pitying losers and frat boy caricatures to the very real women who deal with them. If you enjoy Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, and Wednesday, SCOBY is probably for you.

FAKE JR.
Fake Jr. blends power pop hooks with a touch of twang for a unique sound that's hard to pin down but is easy to love. Led by Kevin Murphy (Seabreeze Diner, Kit McKay, and Matt Southern and the Lost Gold,) Fake Jr.'s sound levies emotional weight against power pop hooks and raw rock-n-roll energy. Part of the Triangle-based Honeyguide Collective creative hive, Fake Jr. blossoms with a sound that Artsplosure organizers call "bold, catchy, and refreshingly original. Think power-pop hooks with a twangy twist. A Raleigh rock n' roll gem."
