Couch to 5K (or C25K) is a training plan that gradually progresses towards a 5km run over 9 weeks.
About this Event

Our coach will take you through the plan, which involves two meet-up sessions on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, and a homework session you can do anytime. The workouts start with various walking and running combinations and are suitable for both non runners and those wanting to get back in to it.



How it works

On Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes you will meet coach Ewan Lachlan at the Changing Rooms on Queen's Park recreation ground. He will take you through a 35min session of exercises, short jogs and cool down walks. We will be running a closed online support group, this is completely optional and is there for extra support, key updates and reassurance between runs. There will be a link to the group in the confirmation email following booking.

Couch to 5K works because it starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina. Week 1 involves running for just a minute at a time, creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable right from the start.



Who it’s suitable for

Couch to 5K is for everyone. Whether you've never run before or you just want to get more active, Couch to 5K is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier.

If you have any health concerns about beginning an exercise regime like Couch to 5K, make an appointment to see a GP and discuss it with them first.

Dogs are welcome, but only one dog per runner and on a short lead. Strollers and buggys are also welcome but we would not encourage you to run while pushing.



What we're offering

We are offering two free coached training sessions every week, with another as your "homework". The sessions last 35 mins and are on...

  • Tuesday - 12:30pm
  • Thursday - 12:30pm

Ewan will explain exactly how the programme works, and what you need to do. If you can’t make every run, that’s okay too. We encourage you to do any missed sessions on your own or with a friend.

The session dates are: January 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29, then February 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, then March 3 and 5. A date for the graduation 5k run will be set for early March.



What you need to bring

Wear running shoes and comfortable clothing that is suitable for exercise. These sessions will take place even if it is raining, so you may want a light waterproof. Excerising is a great way to keep warm while outside, so no need to wear too much.



When it starts

Our 2026 programme starts Tuesday 6th January. Sign up is now open. Make sure you have booked your place.

We will meet at the Changing Rooms entrance on the path which runs through Queen's Park recreation grounds.
